Patrick Smith Presents at AIHA Professional Development Conference

Patrick Smith presented Thursday at the 24th Annual American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Upper Midwest Section Professional Development Conference. His presentation was titled “It’s Not Easy Being Green: Current Challenges And Future Opportunities For Safety & Health Professionals In The Green Energy Field”.

Current green energy production in the U.S. consists largely of Wind and Solar energy, but also includes biomass, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy. Combined these energy sources currently account for 12% of the energy produced in the U.S. but are projected to catch up with petroleum energy and surpass natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy production by 2050.

These energy production methods will present unique challenges and opportunities for EHS professionals in the areas of fire protection, electrical safety, fall protection, confined spaces, crane & hoist safety, lockout/tagout and many others.
