REM Is Pioneering the Field of Climate Security

REM’s Dr. Michael Larrañaga and Dr. John Comiskey, of Monmouth University, are introducing the concept of Climate Security at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s (CHDS) University and Agency Partnership Program at the 12th Annual Homeland Security and Defense Education Summit (October 30-Novermber 1) in Monterey, California.

Dr.’s Larrañaga and Comiskey will discuss how climate security is critical to the security of the nation and for the sustainability of future generations and will recommend the formal inclusion of climate security at the highest levels of the national policy agenda. Dr.’s Larrañaga and Comiskey will also participate in a distinguished panel on climate change moderated by Dr. Chris Bellavita of the CHDS, along with Dr.’s James Ramsay of the University of New Hampshire, Terry O’Sullivan of the University of Akron, and Michele Samaraya-Timm of the Somerset County (NJ) Health Department.

The CHDS is housed within the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and is funded by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
