Benjamin Craig appointed as Principal to the NFPA 800 Technical Committee for Battery Safety
REM’s Benjamin Craig has been appointed as Principal to the NFPA 800 Technical Committee for Battery Safety. NFPA is developing the NFPA 800 Battery Safety Code, leading to a crucial development in battery safety standards.
Batteries are increasingly used in various applications, necessitating a holistic approach to safety throughout their lifecycle. While existing codes address aspects of battery safety, a comprehensive code harmonizing all relevant standards could help identify safety gaps and support local authorities in managing battery hazards. The primary objective of NFPA 800 is to enhance safety measures for the prevention, management, and mitigation of fire, explosions, and other risks linked to cells and batteries throughout their lifecycle, including handling, manufacturing, transportation, storage, and operation.
